CONCRETE SCANNING

Charlotte, NC

Integrated Scanning Solutions was hired to investigate a concrete slab with known post-tension cables in a high-rise building.

The Challenge

Structural drawings showed the post-tension cables were laid 13” apart for the entire length of the building. The original design called for cores to be up to 10” in diameter, and the designs called for at least 300 holes.

Our Approach

We began this project by partnering with our customer to establish a clear line of communication and comprehensive understanding of the structural drawings and design. Once we determined how the post-tension cables were intended to be installed, we were able to proceed with confidence. The building engineers requested X-rays of the floor in several locations in order to compare their plans with GPR results. It was determined that our data and marked objects were accurate, and the client proceeded with building and engaged ISS as the sole provider of concrete investigation.

The Result

The information we provided allowed our customer to core more than 300 locations safely. Some areas required redesign, but the communication and data we provided prevented injury, structural damage, and loss of time due to strikes.
